Message text I always understood that it was the cams job to stop the gun being fired at the point in which the bullets and prop would be at the same time/space, the link stopping the hammer coming down on the bullet, thus the name "interupter gear". The guns must be able to fire with the engine off otherwise you would not be able to test or range in the guns whilst on the ground. Have picturtes of planes held horizontal on dolly carts firing at a range and I cannot recollect the props moving.
