Message text Board games are about rules
We got totaly different POW's. IMO there are two types of boardgame: abstract, like checkers and othello, that are about rules, and ambient, like BM and wargames, that are about simulation.
Of course, the border is absolutely fuzzy, and in any game of a type there are elements of the other type, but the difference exists.
Now BM, IMO, is not a poor simulation, it's a simple one. But it succeds in capturing the feel and mood of dogfight, with a very simple ruleset. A rare pearl, in that.
What I mean is that in BM you can apply many RL tactics, e.g. pursuing turning outside your opponent turn or reacting turning toeard your enemy, and that makes it a good simulation, although a coarse one. |
