Not caring about fuel is IMO more due to being a greenhorn than to not caring about stats.
Usually, it's a matter of not keeping an eye on it in the heat of fight, of "another last move then I run" or of "I can get him before I run dry".
Probably a good deal of real aces's kills where greenhorns that made similar mistakes. Does that invalidates them?
I guess that the "tora tora tora" type that just aims for a kill an doesn't care if he survives represents a minority among YouPlayers. After all one is supposed to play to win, right? I agree that they could in some way twist the stats (i mean the future ones based on ELO, current ones are little more than a joke), but guess that the factor would be as negligible as, e.g., deaths due to engine or structural failures, rough landings and so on.
In Italy we say: "Il tempo e' galantuomo", "Time is a (honest) gentleman". It always gives what is due to whom deserves it.
