Life is unfair. Stability B aircraft are just the norm, the average, when an aircraft has a different stability, it's for a damn good reason.
It's no penalization, look at it the other way, a different stability rating reflects some unique flight characteristics in one way or the other.
Stability C is highly neccessary to reflect the unique maneuverability of the Camel and the Fokker Dr 1
I'll put you an example using Canvas Eagles rules.
The Fokker EV/DVIII
It was regarded as not being as agile as the Dr 1, but much more maneuverable than the Fokker DVII. How come?
There are only so much maneuvers possible, and the DVII has a lot more simply because it's faster.
The advantage of the EV over the DVII is that it can make the 180 degrees turn, the 11L/R maneuver.
So what's the advantage of the Dr1 over the EV, if the latter is faster and has more maneuvers available.
The answer: the superior roll rate and handiness of the triplane. The C stability rule. The Dr 1 can go from Left to Right or viceversa, while the EV has to level off during one turn before turning to the opposite side. |
