Ok, I agree! ...but...
The "Real" DR1 have a little turning edge over the Tripe, but far, reeeeally far from the left/right turn limitation suggested.
Does it really matter as historically they never meet? Then again I don't like the scenarios where a SSDIII meets the Nieuport 17
...and yes, the Camel was seen as an upgrade over the tripe... but don't forget the twin Vikers MG ! IMHO The "Blue Max" Camel lack some high speed manouvers like: 15R 22R 23R 24R 30R The problem with the Camel is that it is considered a "dancer" and not a righ-turning "runner"... the real Camel was fast like the SE5a !!
No, not that fast. It depends on altitude and type of engines, Clerget vs Bentley and all that. The Camel and the Snipe have been decried as "slow" but in the kind of turning fight that a Blue Max game is, the SE5a and the SPAD XIII don't really show that advantageunless flying straight ahead, pretty much everybody is going around at 180 kph.
So, imagine a new sheet similar to a D VII (ok, just the straight and right part), add twin guns and you see why it surclassed the tripe even with "C" stability!
I suggest downloading the Canvas Eagles rules by Eric Hotz, the Camel sheets are really what they should be.
Just to end, 1- Blue Max DR1 and Camel are downgraded versions of the real planes The Dr1 is about right, the Camel sucks.
2- The left-right limitation will seriously cripple the game balance
I don't know, never played with it. It looks like it would be a bitch to turn, but on the other hand it reflects well that dogfights turned into circling fights.. levelling to turn to the other side would expose yourself. I think it's worth trying as an optional rule
3- Upgrade the two "garbage planes" instead of downgrading all the others.
Amen to that. Give more fuel to the Dr1 and a new sheet to the Camel and we are happy |
