According to my source, he lost use of arms and legs, got blinded but never lost consciousness. Quite soon he regained use of his limbs and, after falling for 3200 of his 4000 original meters of altitude, of his eyes. He managed to land (not crash land), ripping away some telegraph lines... with poles.
