I don't understand it very well
With death=1, the values turn out equal
But I can say you something, [...]
Ehm... it happens I'm re-reading Richtofen's diary just in these days.
Now, it depends on how you consider the july 1917 episode. Richtofen wasn't really shot down: he was (badly) wounded, but managed to escape and land on his own.
In March 1917, he was also "shot down": he draw ( ) a "smoke" chit and a "fuel tank hit: loose X fuel", switched off his engine and glided to a safe landing spot.
Is it a "kill"? I don't think: looks more like someone gliding to his map side with engine smashed.
IMO, "death" means exactly that: "pilot killed", "EXPLODE!" or structural damage enough to rip off your tail/wings or break your fuselage.
Or, if you please: "I opened fire. The bullets ripped of the tailplanes and tore the fuselage. Where bullets hit, flames appeared. Too low! A little pull ath the stick... my airplane lifts a little, [...]. A burst tore the side of the aircraft. The pilot turned and rised his head. I saw for an instant his eyes shine behind goggles, then he fell on his seat. [...] His aircraft shuddered, rolled and fell." Cpt. Roy Brown account on Richtofen's death. (I apologize for possible discrepancies, I translated an italian traslation).
So, IMO, Richtofen's ratio keeps 80:1. |
