Message text As another/counter point, by and large the Germans stayed on their own side of the lines. Much more often, the allies flew offensive patrols into German held territory. This was largely as a result of the RFC's envisaged roles of supporting ground troops, spotting artillery fire etc. Generally the RFC flew in support of ground operations such as the Somme, Vimy Ridge, Ypres etc. and hence flew further into enemy territory. By and large, the German planes stayed in their own airspace.
Secondly, the prevailing winds were/are generally Eastward, meaning an allied flier also had a harder time getting home, at a slower pace.
These couple of reasons partially explain the higher loss rates of allied aircraft etc, and are demonstrated in examples like Hawker's last fight.
To my mind, for the game this all adds up that the allies should have less fuel, not more, but heck, I like the rules as they are and agree with those saying it adds a good balance... |
