Sorry for the intrusion...
To an almost "rookie" (at least in term of online play) like me, this appears a very questionable statement.
I won my two last games as one of the D.VII against a Snipe:

I also found the 3 D.VII vs 2 Snipes entirely playable (and winnable for the Fokkers) if the chosen map size is small or medium...
