Message text Nice feedback!
Now, darken immediately pointed the biggest "problem": BM games here are too slow to keep up with the timeline Even with players who login once every day, a single game could last for one real month if they never meet online when they login.
So, here's my solution:
New Rules * The historical time progresses as proposed but each player must report his kills and he dies whenever he is reported or acknowledged as killed. It doesn't matter if some of his kills belong to games which started after the game in which is killed. The only thing which matters is how many kills you managed to report before someone makes known you are killed It think this a nice idea: we can't follow the timeline exactly, but we get the added bonus of the "report your kills" feeling, which is what actually happened in the WWI.
* Each player will have to report his kills in a thread in the forum (or maybe using email). Players may report their kills of a particular game only after they finished or escaped the game alive (or when they come back from MIA in some cases).
* The organizers will be called "WarMasters" (but if you have better names, tell me ) and they will check games routinely to acknowledge deaths and confirm reported kills on finished games. They won't assign kills if they are unreported, they'll just acknowledge deaths. Consider WarMasters as the base leaders who await your squadron to come back home. If you don't come back home, they know you're dead, but they don't know who you shooted down before being killed.
* Your squadron mates *may* report your kills if they come back home safely.
* Pilots with 5 or more kills will be known as "Aces". "Aces" can be acknowledged as dead at any time a WarMaster checks a game and finds they are dead, even if the game hasn't ended yet. Consider this as if the Aces are so good and famous that people on the ground recognize their planes when they crash down or explode in the skies. Obviously, when that game ends, they will not be acknowledged as dead again.
* Games which doesn't end within the end of the War are considered as "ininfluent" for the outcome of the War. However, if an Ace has been acknowledged as dead during that game, his death will still be valid.
* Pilots who exit the board from the enemy side are considered POW (Prisoners of War). They will be treated as MIA, but they'll need a longer time to come back home.
* Pilots who exit the board from the north/south borders are automatically MIA (Missing in Action).
Special Features Balloons, other planes, Ace in-game bonuses...these are nice but probably impossible for now Who knows, may one day our beloved Skymasters will be able to implement them, but for now we must do without them
Two sides /BOLD] Forcing people to choose only one side (German or Allied) might be a nice idea to increase competition but it has a big problem. If each player plays only one side the total "sum" of played scenarios must be balanced, to give both sides the same chance to win the war...and that may be difficult to make. Instead, without fixed sides, you can play any scenario, because it's people choice to play a single scenario, whether if it's balanced or not....while on the long run, whichever side wins, they will be winner so they don't care about the overall balance
Email required Given the above rules, it's not a big problem if players do not move. However, having a ready email address to contact players will probably be useful, so I guess that email will be required, as suggested.
Badge Awards /BOLD] We will make up a whole ranking system based on kills and completed missions, which will give pilots the opportunity to gain ranks and badges. A pilot *might* lose ranks if he retires "too early" and his wingmen report him as "coward" when coming back home (*if* they manage to come back home.. ). We might give specific rules to this case or skip the loss of badges altogheter.
That's all for now I guess...keep posting!
