The text - which - follows is the retranscription, quasi faithful, of a article published in the French magazine: VAE VICTIS n°3 (June - July 1995), which treats play of tactical and strategic history.

My idea is to see with you how we could adapt the scenario so that it is playable on YOU PLAY IT.

"FANTOMAS A VERDUN

To the end of the summer 1917, in the sector of the way of the Injuries, a mysterious German aviator who is made call "Phantom - Ace" comes mitrailler morning and evening the trenches from the first French lines. With the contempt of the shootings rageurs of the DCA, the daring pilot bombards and demoralizes the hairy ones with blows of grenades and leaflets of challenge.

With the paddle of September 6, 1917, a French two-seater apparatus takes off of a neighbouring base with for mission of intercepting the agitator. On his board the adjudant - Carré pilot and the machine gunner are - observer of Arnoux. "Phantom - Ace" is specific, but it is quickly taken drives out some by the French crew. Alas, two other German planes emerge from the clouds in their turn and join to the duel.

German planes: three Albatross D.III

The French plane: Bréguet 14, armed with two Lewis machine-guns twinned on turret swivelling and with Vickers fixes drawing forwards. Bréguet 14 has the same characteristics as Bristol-board F.2B

INITIAL PLACEMENT

To place the first Albatross (that of "Phantom - Ace" at three hexagons of the bottom of the chart, directed parallel to the trenches. As it carries out a strafing, it is necessarily at low altitude and will have to advance in straight line at the time of the 1st turn of play. To place Bréguet in the tail of the German apparatus, two hexagons behind him and possibly at an altitude superior.

With the end of each turn of play, the German player throws a d6 to determine if both other Albatross intervene with the following turn.

For that, it must obtain:
6 with the first turn of play
5 or 6 with the second turn of play
4, 5 or 6 with the third turn of play, etc.

The two German apparatuses enter by the German edge of the chart, at high altitude.

CONDITION OF VICTOIRE

French Victoire: the French crew manages to cut down "Phantom - Ace" and to escape by the edge C of the chart.

German Victoire: the German pilots manage to cut down French without undergoing any loss.

In all the other cases, it is a null match.

EPILOGUE

To three against one, the exit of combat is fatal to the French crew. The pilot is killed with the orders and the apparatus is crushed in No man' S Land, between the barbed wires and the German trenches of first line. Under the shock, of Arnoux is ejected and it to lie now with half-unconscious beside the wreck, the two legs broken.

Whereas this drama proceeds, the hairy ones assisted, impotent, with the unequal combat which made rage above their head. To the favour of the darkness, ten man of the 4e Zouave will try an incursion into the enemy lines, decided well to help the unhappy aviator. Alas, they run up in way against a German patrol.

In spite of two unfruitful attempts, the heroic zouaves do not give up. In the early morning, a thick fog finally enables them to approach the destroyed apparatus. They manage to bring back in their lines Jacques d' Arnoux, unconscious but always alive, and the body of the Carré adjudant."

Here. Whereas can it be made to retranscribe this scenario so that it is playable online?
