Not a bad idea, but most of the times a pilot retires not for cowardice, but for some good reason: out of engine, really badly crippled plane and, most of all, out of fuel. Or simply because all enemyes are too far, and going hunting means only offer them a good glider for target pratice.
An alternative can be: halve the points if you retire from your side before turn 20 or 25.
Furthermore exiting from the wrong side should be penalized more than exiting from your side. Maybe you should reduce to zero the score from a plane exiting from the wrong side.
Or forget score and statistics.
