Message text Fellow Pilots:
Not sure if this topic has been addressed in the Forum before, but it would be nice to be able to choose a "burst length," as in the physical board game, in the next version of the code.
What I had in mind was a series of default checkoffs depending on range and deflection of the opponent, if any. There are only seven choices and those choices could appear on the screen at the same time the pilot is choosing his maneuver. The pilot would choose either a long, medium, or short burst for each of those seven scenarios simply by checking a box: 3 hex with deflection, 3 hex without deflection, 2 hex with deflection, 2 hex without deflection, 1 hex with deflection, 1 hex without deflection, and zero hex shot. Or the pilot/program could choose the default, medium burst, for all situations. This way the pilot could choose a "long burst" for those close encounters, at the risk of jammed guns, if they so choose.
Of course the plane would only fire if there was a target available to shoot at.
As for "jammed guns" on a long burst, if that happens, the rules state that the pilot can only unjam the guns if he does a specific maneuver. As such, if the pilot does the specific maneuver, the program would check to see of the guns became unjammed. If the pilot does not do that maneuver, then the computer doesn't check.
Also, what about the Lewis guns for the SE5a and the Bristol?
Thoughts?
