Message text My comment "advanced and simplified games play directly to the less skilled" is over stated but based on reason. If you are really good at outfoxing your opponents then your only real danger in the standard game is engine and tail (or a wimpy plane), but in the advanced game, one red chit and a less skilled player can easily turn it around(of course the "better" player is also pulling those chits against others, increasing their kill speed, hence a lowering in total points earned. Two seaters have the real advantage in simplified games, but I also believe that the less skilled can better dodge when they can't be tailed. I really dont see the need for the site to support simplified games, they are silly. I feel all the sillier because the only time I joined the suiciders in the Early War Big scenario, it turned out to be a simplified game!!!! couldn't even tail and kill, it was a sorry day that I well deserved.
Just4Fun, I don't think you became less skilled either, but with that added luck level you seem to have paid a price. But hey, all for the glory of a fun battle!

As a comparison, the difference is that my kills to deaths ratio while playing similar aircraft/scenarios for Advanced games is about half of what it was when I played Standard games (as MaxMM Schlecht). Am I less skilled now?? I don't think so. Was I a coward then? I hope not! In spite of my relative decrease in success since I switched over, I still like the Advanced version more because it is a better model of WWI air combat than the Standard game. There is more uncertainty and, for me, that makes it more fun as a game. As I said at the top, if someone likes Standard rules games more, for whatever reason, then that is what they should play. End of story. Have fun! |
