Even if i'm not a pilot skilled like Gugliandalf, or MH i have some suggestions to add:
1) even if you don't have an enemy tail try to tail one of yours wingmen to do teamwork;
1b) especially true if yours wingmen it's tailing an enemy (because from the move of your wingmen you can second guess the enemy move).
2)When you are heavily damaged, heavily outnumbered or low on fuel (considering the distance from your friendly side) FLEE.
3) First think how to survive enemy fire and only next how to shoot anyone (heroes dont last long).
4) Never stall until you are an ace.
