| Message text Well, we know the Nprt 17 was an excellent airplane, "in its day." Good enough that the Germans-- who had nothing to match it-- tried to copy it straight up, ending up with the Sms Schuk D1, which was a bit sturdier but not nearly as fast or maneuverable (the "mirror image" in BM is really poor history/research).
Point is, the N 17 was a very tough plane and gave the Alb D-IIs all they wanted. Yet, in this game, it's just about as lousy a plane as can be found. (And the people doing scenarios putting N 17s in the same air as SS D3s/4s should be ashamed of themselves!)
Putting the blue pilot killed chit would give some extra hope for all the one-gun planes, which end up with zero much of the time if they shoot farther than 1 hex away. That's a good thing.
But keep in mind that the 2 gun planes, at long shots/poor shots will get a blue chit where one-gunners don't even get a die roll. So the lethal nature of the chit will not be a big help for the single gun planes-- they have a chance to knock over the better planes that they don't have now, but the chances of them getting killed go up as well. |
