I think I'm going to start playing Wings of War. BlueMax is old. BlueMax is not relevant to the present times anymore. Their are no new changes or new expansions coming out for BlueMax. Younger players demand and expect more from a game these days. The bookshelf game era is dead and gone. BlueMax was a part of that era. No one will reprint a dinosaur from the past and expect it to be profitable. Avalon Hill Games was one of the biggest sellers of bookshelf style hex boards and cardboard counter games. They have been out of business for years. I think I'm going to pick up the Wings of War WWI Revised Deluxe Set. Anyone buy the set? Is it any good? http://www.fantasyflightgames.com/edge_minisite.asp?eidm=24--- Message edited by JohnHawkerGhost --- Message edited by JohnHawkerGhost
If regular expansions, and "relevance" to our times is what you seek, you are not in the best place to satisfy your need. I would recommend more time spent on boardgamegeek.com reviewing "The Hotness". You might also benefit from Hasbro and Games Workshop. They seem to be profitable companies that like regular, profitable, expansions and versions. This would still leave you as a societal outsider here in the U.S.A. I assume a similar situation in Australia.
Computer gaming is actually shrinking, and has borderline profitability, with excellent companies going under. What you really need is an Xbox 360. Profitable products, revisions happen automatically when you attempt to play while logged in, and new expansions are regularly provided for many of the games. If you want to get an Xbox to appear relevant, you can still play board games like Catan, Carcassonne, Risk, etc., on it. They even have http://forums.xbox.com/7/ShowForum.aspx Lots of people play Xbox 360 games. My source says that World of Warcraft has about 12 million subscribers, while the best selling Xbox 360 game, Halo 3, has sold about 8 million copies.
To really be in the now you need to get a Wii and play Wii Sports. OVER 75 MILLION COPIES SOLD!!! Plus, the younger players are really into the Wii.
Shoot, I keep thinking I have found you the most updated, profitable, relevant, games. Mobile phone app Angry Birds has sold about 100 million copies, and there are 3 versions, and they get updated!!!
Darn it... Farmville was reported as the most played game in the world, and it is profitable, and is regularly updated. I am too sad to look up its' numbers Ah, who am I kidding. I see reports that they had 80 million players in 2010 and dropped to 60 million later in the year. So it is only the most played if you count who is actually playing what game at a given moment of the day. Pretty relevant, plus you get facebook friends. (talk about relevant)
