Message text You have to leave the possibility of retiring to planes which are out of fuel or which have the engine KO, otherwise no one will want to fly on german planes which have, on average, 10 fuel points less than the allied ones.
Probably it is even acceptable a retirement from a plane in critical conditions, like only one wing point left. This is more debatable.
A different story is who retires without being in critical conditions, just to "win" the game. In this case the only positive attitude is: just don't care about it! We are playing for having fun, and not for some abstract statistics. Just remember the name and never sign up for matches anymore with this "early runner".
