Message text > Would you mind sharing with us > your experience in creating this site?
Not at all. We have no secrets.
This is not a commercial site, we are all friends here at YouPlayIt and we are all boardgames players since long time (a bit too long, since we are all around 40).
This site is our hobby. We created it to be able to play with our favorite games even when we were not in the same room. At the beginning it wasn't meant to be a public site. We choosed the play-by-mail approach because we don't like too much those sites where you have to be always online, from the beginning to the end of the game. We have to work for a living, and this way we could make a single move every now and then, and be back to work after that.
After a while we opened the site to everyone. Our goal becamed spreading the boardgames knowledge, knowing other people with our same interest, and having fun in the meantime.
The site is grown well beyond our wildest dreams, and we have to thank all of you for all your support, but our goal is always the same, and we have the same hobbyist approach to it.
> what kind of software and language > are u using in implement this site?
Since we are working as free lance programmers, we decided to use the same instruments we were using during worktime. ASP under Windows 2000 server. But you can simply use the languages and operating systems you know better.
> only a few would be inspired and > start their own one. What do u think?
I think that if you want to create a gaming site, and you already have some online programming experience, you can send me a mail to postmaster@youplay.it and ask freely. I will be happy to answer to your questions, if I can.
