in the old days before the internet, shots were a base value multiplied by a die roll. The result would be a number of hits, represented by drawing chits from a bag. One side of each chit is red, the other blue.
The hit would tell you which side to apply... eg BRRR would be draw 4 chits, take the blue side on the first and the red side on the others.
Blues are generally less serious than red...
