In terms of gameplay there's no difference between the two planes. The only difference is that the SS D.III it available in April 1918, while the SS D.IV is available in August 1918 (just one month before Snipes enter the war).
In the BM box there's just one D.III chit and one D.IV chit. So, in a campaign, German side has just one SS plane from April 18 to July 18, and two from August 18 to the end of war.
