Hi all! I would like to run an unofficial Blue Max tournament on YouPlay. It . This tournament is not sponsored by YouPlay. It, so if you have any comments or complaints, send them to me, not the Webmasters! My email is craig6671@bluemarble.net Also, I will not be playing in this tournament with either of my YouPlay. It accounts.

Tournament Description

1. First, all players wishing to participate in the tournament need to subscribe to a YahooGroup titled “BMTournament” that I have created for the tournament. You can get to the YahooGroups login/registration page here: http://login.yahoo.com/config/login?.intl=us&.src=ygrp&.done=http://groups.yahoo.com%2F target='_blank'>http://login.yahoo.com/config/login?.intl=us&.src=ygrp&.done=http://groups.yahoo.com%2F Once you’re in, do a search for “BMTournament”. If you have trouble signing up, just send me your e-mail address and the YouPlay. It ID you will be using for the tournament and I will subscribe you to the group. The purpose of the group is to facilitate communications among myself and all of the tournament participants. I don’t want to tie up the YouPlayIt online forum or YouPlayIt Yahoo Group, so I have set up this new group just for the tournament play.
2. All games for this tournament will use the Advanced rules. I will consider running Standard or Simplified rules tournaments also in the future if there is sufficient interest.
3. All games will be 2-player games. Team tournaments would be fun too, but I want to start with one-on-one games.
4. Single elimination format. You lose once and you’re out. There are other interesting options (double elimination, world cup style, etc.) that I would consider in the future, but I think this is simplest so that’s what I want to start with.
5. Initial pairings will be random. There are so many variables among players that a meaningful comparison of the statistics becomes very problematic. Also, I don’t want to hurt anybody’s feeling if I were to “seed” them lower than they felt they deserved.
6. This tournament is open to any player that agrees to the above conditions. In the future, I may run an “invitational” for the players at the top of the statistical heap.

Game Set-Up Procedure:

1. Randomly determine which player from each pair is Player A. The other is player B.
2. Player A will select which 2 -player scenario he wants to play and e-mail this information to Player B and to me. Be careful which scenario you pick! Your opponent will probably select the “better” plane.
3. Player B will create that game (pass-worded) on the YouPlay. It site, select which plane he wants to use, and e-mail the game number and password to Player A and to me.
4. Player A will subscribe to that game using the remaining plane and the game will begin.

Winning:

1. If one plane is shot down and the other is not, the survivor will be declared the winner regardless of how many points each player has.
2. If neither or both planes are shot down, the winning player will be the player with the most points. However, a player that retires with more than 5 fuel remaining will be considered, for this tournament, to have conceded the game to his opponent. (This is MY rule, not a YouPlay. It rule). I am doing this to hopefully prevent someone from getting up a few points and then making a quick exit to “win”.
3. In the event that neither or both planes are shot down and the players have equal points, the winner shall be player A since player B had the choice of planes.

“Delay of Game” Penalty

I don’t want the tournament to grind to a halt because a player quits making moves, so I am implementing the following tournament rules for excessive delay.

1. If your opponent fails to make a move for 7 days since your last move, please notify me and I will verify this with the webmasters and send your opponent an e-mail requesting their move. Players that have tailing are not subject to this rule until their opponent has submitted a move for that turn.
2. If I have not received a satisfactory response or your opponent has not submitted a move within another 7 days after I send the warning notice, that player will be eliminated from the tournament, and you will advance, regardless of the current or future game situation. For purposes of the tournament, the game is considered to be finished but the players may continue to play for their own enjoyment if they wish.
3. Players who again fail to make a move for 7 days or more, in that same game, will be immediately eliminated from the tournament, as above, upon verification by the webmasters.

I will post first round pairings for the tournament on January 18, 2004, if I get at least 8 participants (hopefully more!), so that players will have ample opportunity to comment on my plans and or sign up. Depending on the number of players signing up, some players may receive first round “byes” and automatically advance to the second round. This will be determined randomly.

This is my first try at something like this, so I would appreciate your comments and suggestions. Thanks and Good Luck!
