r u sure about that ?? The original games just designed to run 24 rounds. An infinite maps seems not a reasonable solution.

P.S. If inifnite map is the concept, why did we need to incorporate fuel in the game

Honestly,
never bet on my memory, so,
I do not remember the versions I played (anycase more than once (map with cities and railroad, newer???, maps with no hex in the 4 angles). In the rules with the map with cities and railroad I BET on that, you had to shift the map on high-low border and could NOT exit to the wrong side.
So the map was infinite only on 2 borders... infite but also finite
