Obviously I can avoid use it, and I see your point about the damaging system.
But the main problem with simplified games is the missing tailing rules. Games without tailing are IMHO uninteresting (even for beginners), have different strategies (if any) compared with normal games and are for this reason "diseducative".
Furthermore the simplified games IMHO increase the advantage of observer and superplanes, expecially in the one/few-vs-many scenarios. An even better newbie trap.
So maybe simplified games can have visible damage but tailing rules.
So my vote goes to the no side and take the liberty to propose you to just don't join simplified games and keep with standard and/or advanced.
I already do it. But newbies don't.
