I think in any case, a quick brief in turn one is OK. We have to remember that in reality, these pilots would have known each other and how they flew from months of training, or just chatting at the airfield etc...
We don't have that here and are often flying with strangers, so it is OK to assume that a quick "pilot x, be my wing" or "all allies group together around pilot x" would be fine as these are things they would have known to do from training..... Anything beyond this, however, would be unfair.
Maybe it should be stated in the comment box when creating games, whether or not a brief is acceptable?
