I should preface my response by saying that I am a participant in the tournament and my team is in the secound round and could, therefore, be affected by this decision.
Continuing on, are we sure that Vzzzz will not have a regular enough of a connection to participate? Sometimes, reality is not as bad as what we imagine. I can wait a little more to find out for sure.
However, assuming that the problem is real, the only way I can respond is to put myself in the same situation. If my teammate were unable to continue for some reason, I think I would just voluntarily withdraw from the tournament. It is a team tournament, after all. If my partner can't participate, my team can't participate.
As to who I think should replace my team if it was in the same situation, I would have to say the 3rd place team in the same group (group 3) for the simple reason that the tournament rules stipulated that the top two teams from each group would advance. If one of these teams dropped out, for any reason, the 3rd place team would inherit the second position. Although it is tempting to say the team with the next best record (regardless of which group they belong to) should advance, there is really no basis in doing this. The various teams' records have been compiled against different oppponents from different groups. For example, it is impossible to say that a team with 4 wins from one group is actually any better than a team with 2 wins from another group because they have no direct or even common opponents.
For the reasons mentioned above, my opinion is that answer b.1 (3rd team from group 3) is the most appropriate response to marcuza's question. Drop FK jasta 3 and replace them with FK jasta 2.
