The first one is about how to do it. I mean, you'd have to choose the plane livery from a popup window listings all the available liveries. This is technically possible, but it's not too simple to do, and it has to be tested in several browser too.
Instead of a popup, why not just putting a couple of arrows (previous and next) which change the displayed livery for your plane? I know some people would like to see all the liveries at once, but that is what http://www.youplay.it/play/bm_showAllPlanes.asp is for
The second one is with the game subscribing phase, because we don't want 2 planes with the same livery in the same game. Let's imagine this: you are subscribing to a new game. You are on the subscribe a game page, then you choose a plane without changing your plane livery (you are taking the default one). In the same time someone choose your same livery with another plane, and save his choice before you do it. Your choice has to be refused then, and you have to be redirected back to the subscribe a game page (this is already done when 2 users are choosing the same plane, but it's a quite different matter).
What about giving each player his unique livery? This way, there would be no problem during the subscribe phase. However, with the current plane images, that would require a *huge* amount of graphical work...(hundreds of planes ) Unless... Solution 1) Each player can upload his own livery for a certain plane. If he has no livery, he is assigned the standard one of the scenario. That way, the graphical work would be transferred to players...do you want your livery? Make it! (or ask some good fellow pilot to make it for you) Solution 2) Planes are no longer a single image but they are split into engine, wings, fuselage, tail.. This way, we could just create 8 colours for each part to get 4096 different planes.. (It would still be a lot of work, but easier). |
