| | Message text I think the fuel rule assumes that both sides planes have been patroling for a bit before they find each other - thus, it's not reflective of the amount of fuel they would have had if they had just taken off.
The fuel rule also serves to keep kills at a reasonable level - in real life, fights often ended with both sides breaking off and running for home for various reasons - in a board game, people have the tendency to try to fight it out until the bitter end.
It's true that it may seem somewhat artificial - but it does keep fights from dragging on forever as eventually, someone has to run away.
If we increase fuel or make it unlimited fuel, it would change the play balance of the game - and this would only be restored by including such things as:
1) limited ammunition (thus, if you run out of ammunition, you will have a reason for running).
2) pilot wounded results (player must exit off his side of the map within X number of turns or pass out and crash)
As it is, I like the limited fuel rule - it prevents people from running around at full speed without having to worry about the consequences and makes you have to think more.
Just MHO, of course. |
