Maybe the two 'Plane Explodes' just made it seem that his tail was longer

Seriously though, all the damage taken is shown - even if the damage exceeds the planes normal allotment of tail, etc. In some recent games I have seen a plane take 20 damage to the tail or 40 damage to the wings.

Needless to say, it's always funnier when it happens to someone elses plane
